December 2019

I started going to Navi’s Family Dental & Associates after my long time dentist retired. The dental hygienist Sarah is so efficient and so pleasant. I definitely have a fear of the dentist, but surprisingly enough, Dr. Navid has a very calming effect. I will forever have a fear of the dentist, but this office does make it doable. View On Google

What Are Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin porcelain shells that cover the front surface of a tooth and conceal minor blemishes beneath. Porcelain mimics the sheen and translucency of natural enamel, producing highly lifelike results. When designing your veneers, our dentists pay special attention to ensure that the shape and color match your surrounding teeth.

At Navid Family Dental & Associates in Peabody, MA, we offer traditional and minimal-prep veneers to meet the various needs of our patients.

Veneers Can Address a Wide Variety of Cosmetic Concerns

If you have slightly crooked teeth or minor gaps but do not want to undergo orthodontic treatment, porcelain veneers may be right for you.

Chipped or Cracked Teeth

Dental veneers can also conceal chips or cracks on the surface of your teeth, rejuvenating your smile and restoring a smooth surface.

Deep Stains and Discoloration

While surface stains can be removed with professional teeth whitening, deep stains or permanent discoloration are often best addressed with porcelain veneers.

Worn Teeth

As we age, our smile does too. Our family-friendly dentists can help you enhance worn teeth by placing these lifelike restorations.

General Asymmetry

When your teeth are disproportionately sized or misshapen, your entire smile can look asymmetrical. Veneers improve the shape of your teeth by concealing inconsistencies.

Want Even More Dramatic Results?

Veneers are an excellent standalone procedure. However, they can also be incorporated into a custom smile makeover for even more dramatic results.

Checklist for Patients Considering Porcelain Veneers

Although veneers are a great option for many patients, there are certain factors to consider before committing to treatment. Before recommending porcelain veneers, our cosmetic dentists will assess your:

When placing traditional dental veneers, cosmetic dentists remove a small amount of dental enamel. If you have thinning enamel, you may be a better candidate for minimal-prep veneers.

Severity of Your Issues

Porcelain veneers can conceal many concerns, but if you have extensive damage, you may need a root canal, dental crown, or other treatment. In addition, severe orthodontic issues or bite-related concerns are better suited to braces.

Oral Health

Keep in mind that if you have any oral health problems, these will need to be addressed prior to any elective cosmetic treatment. Once your veneers are placed, you will need to floss and brush them just like your natural teeth.

Although porcelain is very strong, it is not indestructible. Excessive pressure can cause your veneers to prematurely fracture, so patients who have a tendency to clench or grind their teeth may need an oral appliance for added protection.

Traditional veneers require permanent alteration of your teeth. Once you receive one, your tooth will always require some kind of restoration. Before recommending dental veneers, our dentists will ensure that you are ready for the commitment. However, options such as minimal-prep veneers are often reversible.

The Veneers Procedure

During your initial appointment, we will review your goals and the structure of your smile to determine whether veneers are right for you.

Tooth Preparation

If you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers, our dentists will remove a small amount of enamel from the surface of the affected tooth or teeth.

We will then take impressions of your teeth, which will be used to fabricate your custom veneers.

Fabricating the Veneers

These impressions will then be sent to a local laboratory, where technicians will create each veneer out of high-quality porcelain.

During a second appointment at our Peabody, MA, office, our dentists will remove your temporary veneer and ensure that the permanent veneer complements the form and function of your smile. After making any necessary alterations, we will cement the dental veneer in place and polish your teeth to reveal your newly enhanced smile.

Your Treatment Options

Traditional Veneers

If you choose traditional veneers, we will first prepare your tooth by removing a small layer of the enamel. We will then apply a bonding agent and secure the veneer in place.

Minimal-Prep LUMINEERS require little or no enamel removal prior to placement since they are thinner than their traditional counterparts. We may simply use an etching solution to increase adhesion before applying the LUMINEER to the tooth.
